Zamaniha (Oplopanax) is a shrub and belongs to the Aralievye family. These representatives of the flora grow in the forest-coniferous zone of the Far East, USA, Canada and China. There are only three types of shrub. The high lure has won particular fame and popularity in cultural cultivation. The roots of the plant are used both in folk and official medicine and are of high value.
Characteristics of the enticement
The shrub height can reach from 1.5 to 3 meters. Long and fragile shoots with poor grayish stems, strewn with sharp thorns, depart from the creeping rhizome. Most of these spines are found on the top of the stem.
The edges of the petiole leaves are serrated with a hairy fringe. The color of the leaves is light green. They grow up to 35 cm and are formed from several shallow lobes, the surface of which is densely covered with an additional layer of small spines. In contrast to the outer side from below, the leaf blades have thorns only at the border of the veins. The largest leaves are concentrated near the top of the shrub, which makes the plant look unusual.
The length of the inflorescences is approximately 18 cm. A pair of umbrellas is formed from the axils, divided into yellow flowers with a greenish tinge. From the wilted buds, small berries appear with a diameter of no more than 12 cm. Each berry contains two seeds. The shell of the berries is colored red, giving the plant an attractive appearance during fruiting.
Growing bait outdoors
Landing a lure
In nature, the lure prefers darkened corners. Cultivated species of the zamanihi shrub are grown in areas located in the shade of nearby growing trees, where it develops well. Often, gardeners build a kind of polycarbonate frame, which creates an artificial shade and obscures the plant from bad weather and excessive rainfall. Before planting the lure, the plot is carefully dug up, mixing the earth with sand, ash and humus. Before sending the seedlings into the holes, the soil is poured abundantly.
Breeding features
The seed method of breeding zamaniha is used quite rarely, since it will take a lot of time to achieve the appearance of strong and healthy bushes. Experienced gardeners recommend using rhizomes for breeding lures. Pieces of rhizome are sent to the ground in the spring, before the start of sap flow. They are sprinkled with a thin layer of nutrient substrate and watered.
A ready-made zamanihi seedling purchased in a specialized store or at an agricultural fair is placed in a previously prepared hole to a depth of 80 cm. The bottom is covered with drainage material. Broken brick, crushed stone, pieces of old tiles will do. The thickness of the layer should be at least 15 cm. The bush is planted in the center of the hole and covered with soil substrate, which is collected from garden soil, organic fertilizer, coarse sand and clay.Planting is carried out in such a way that the root collar looks out above the surface. Planting ends with abundant watering of the trunk circle.
Caring for the lure in the garden
Taking care of the bait is not difficult, even a novice gardener can handle it. The shrub is distinguished by its endurance, unpretentiousness and does not impose special requirements for the location. As a rule, the adaptation of the seedling is quick and painless.
At the initial stage, watering is provided twice a week. Each bush has a bucket of settled water. It is important to keep the soil around the trunk circle always in a loose state and to remove weeds from the site in time. Proper care of the bait is a guarantee of the successful growth and development of the bush. Zamaniha begins to possess healing properties only at the age of seven.
The plant does almost without additional feeding. As for water, watering is carried out only during prolonged drought. During the year, the bushes feed on natural moisture, therefore, if summer and spring are issued without anomalies, it is allowed to forget about watering. In a hot and sultry season, it is recommended to spray the leaves and shoots in the evenings.
Shelter for the winter
Only young seedlings are prepared for winter, which grow in one place for no more than a year. They are covered with spruce branches, and the trunk is wrapped in burlap or tow. When the snow falls, a snow frame is made under the bush. Having completed all the necessary measures, you can not be afraid for the plant. In this form, the lure will survive any cold weather. Adult shrubs of 2 or 3 years old do not need any shelter.
Only frosty and snowless winters pose a threat. In this case, it is better to play it safe and take care of the safety of the bushes.
Collection of lure and storage
As medicines, only the zamanihi rhizome is harvested. The collection of roots is carried out in early September, when the bushes have already shed their leaves and faded. The rhizome is carefully taken out of the ground, leaving side roots, and the adhering sand is shaken off. Then the top is removed along with the stems and the rotten and diseased areas are disposed of. The cut rhizome is washed in cold water and cut into slices, which are poured into thin layers on a newspaper sheet and dried in a dark ventilated room or in the attic. To dry the pieces faster, turn them over and change the litter. Then the drying process will go evenly. It is allowed to dry raw materials in an oven or electric dryers, setting the temperature regime to 50 ºC.
Dry roots are stored in bags or paper bags in a dark, dry place. Their medicinal value is not lost for three years.
