Forcing daffodils for winter

Forcing daffodils for winter at home

Even if there is snow outside the window and the air temperature has dropped far below zero, you can grow beautiful flowering plants of the bulbous family at home, which will cheer up and decorate the interior of the room. For example, daffodils are flowers that can bloom throughout the winter and are easily distilled.

With the onset of late autumn, and then winter, many summer residents and gardeners are left without their main occupation - work on the land. They are used to planting, digging, watering and growing something. But you can devote this time to caring for indoor plants and forcing bulbous representatives of the flora. This activity is quite exciting, interesting and not difficult, even children can take part in it. Children observe the whole process of forcing (the appearance of an arrow, leaves and flowers) with genuine curiosity. Best suited for these procedures daffodils.

The Mediterranean countries are considered the homeland of daffodils. This beautiful flower has a unique scent that can enchant or, conversely, cause dislike. Tastes could not be discussed!

Daffodil bulbs in winter can be purchased at specialized flower outlets, markets or online stores. It is recommended to harvest the bulbs in autumn. Most of the species and varieties of bulbous plants require some time in a cool room before forcing. But for narcissists, this is not necessary. They have a flowering period already in the sixth week after planting. For example, by planting daffodil bulbs in early November, you can admire their lush bloom at Christmas.

Basic rules for forcing daffodil bulbs

Basic rules for forcing daffodil bulbs

  • You need to prepare: onions, deep bowls, expanded clay and water.
  • Bulbs should be stored in a dry, dark place until the day of planting.
  • Deep plates or plastic containers should have high sides and no additional holes.
  • It is necessary to purchase expanded clay or fine gravel in a specialized store and fill a prepared container with it. It should cover the entire bottom of the container or plate.
  • The entire drainage layer (from expanded clay or pebbles) must be filled with water so that it completely covers it.
  • Then you need to spread the prepared onions on the expanded clay with the roots down.
  • The bulbs can be close together.
  • If necessary, the amount of expanded clay can be increased, leaving only one fourth of the container free.
  • Only the base of the bulb should be in water, so the root formation process will begin faster. If the bulb is completely submerged in the water, it will most likely simply rot.
  • During the period of root formation on the bulbs, they can be stored in a dry room at room temperature without sunlight, and after the appearance of young roots, sunlight is recommended for plants.
  • The water will quickly evaporate from the container. It is recommended to add it on time so that the expanded clay is not dry.

Fresh blooming daffodils in winter will create a unique atmosphere of spring and warmth in your home.
