Types of lawns, classification of lawns and characteristics of each type

Ordinary lawn

An ordinary lawn has such a distinctive characteristic as high resistance to trampling. This type of lawn is most often used for landscaping lawns, as well as for creating landscape compositions. But after planting and the first shoots of high-quality grassy cover, you do not need to wait at least the first couple of months. During this time, the grass should become thick and uniform. But then the lawn can be cut to the desired length, it will become thick, resistant to trampling, viable. An ordinary lawn will provide a good green coverage both in shaded areas and in open sunny areas of the garden.

Meadow lawn

Meadow lawn

Meadow lawn can be planted in unprepared soil. To make it decorative, it must be mowed. Typically, a meadow lawn consists of a mixture of three to five species of cereal plants with the addition of other species to make it more decorative. At the beginning of summer, the meadow lawn will be covered with decorative flowering annuals, which will then gradually change to cereal plants. Usually the meadow lawn is adapted to the local climatic conditions.

Parterre lawn

Parterre lawn

The parterre lawn is the most decorative type among all lawn mixtures. It is planted on the front lawns in front of the main entrance. It is not intended to be trampled, but has a decorative purpose. In appearance, the parterre lawn is dense, saturated green, even shade, even, without lunges. The herbage is dense and consists of small gramineous species. Usually the parterre lawn serves as a noble backdrop for flower beds with roses.

In the conditions of the Russian climate, it is problematic to grow a high-quality parterre lawn. It requires careful grooming, frequent haircuts, and a humid and warm climate. Usually a parterre lawn is common in European countries, especially in England.

Moorish lawn

Moorish lawn

The Moorish lawn is a mixture of ornamental flowering annuals and perennial grasses. Such a lawn allows you to make the landscape of the site as close as possible to natural conditions. Well suited for planting along artificial or natural bodies of water.

Flowering annuals usually do not exceed 40 cm in height. These include calendula, chamomile, forget-me-nots, clover, carnation, delphinium, poppies and cornflowers.

Roll lawn

Roll lawn

Rolled lawn is the least labor-intensive method of obtaining an even grassy surface at a summer cottage. Roll lawn is produced as follows. A thin layer of nutritious substrate is poured onto pieces of burlap, seeds are sown in it, they are waiting for their germination and reaching a certain height of the lawn. Next, the burlap is cut into pieces of the specified size and rolled into rolls. The resulting lawn can be planted in a predetermined place on the prepared soil. The grassy squares are carefully matched to each other so that the lawn is level and the joints are not visible. A fully rolled lawn takes root in a permanent place by the end of summer.

Rolled lawn does not require special care, but it is also not without its drawbacks.Among them, there is a poor survival rate, as well as a short lifespan in rolls. So the lawn roll remains suitable for planting for 6 hours in hot weather and for 5 days in cool and humid weather. The soil in which the lawn will be planted must be identical in composition to the one in which it originally grew. This will ensure its maximum survival.
