Rivina is a shrub with decorative leaves and is a representative of the Lakonosovs. The plant is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of America. Reaches compact size. Under indoor conditions, low rivina is used for cultivation, which is valued not so much for the beauty of leaves or flowers, but as for the decorativeness of the berry bunches that grow on the branches almost all year round.
Caring for rivina at home
Lighting
Rivina needs bright light all year round, but the plant needs to be shaded from the direct rays of the sun. If the rivina does not have enough light, she will drop the berries.
Temperature
In summer and spring, rivina is kept at a temperature of about 20 degrees, and in winter - from 15 to 18 degrees. If the conditions of detention are violated, rivina discards fruits and leaves.
Air humidity
Rivina prefers keeping in high humidity. To do this, the leaves and the space around the plant are regularly sprayed with water.
Watering
In the spring and summer, the rivina is watered abundantly and often, as the top layer of the substrate dries up a little. In the fall, watering is reduced. In winter, at a low temperature, rivina needs occasional watering.
The soil
You can purchase a substrate for growing rivina at a specialized store or prepare it yourself. To do this, take equal parts of sod land, humus, leafy land and add a little sand.
Top dressing and fertilizers
From spring to autumn, rivina is fed with a universal complex fertilizer twice a month. In winter, the shrub is dormant and therefore does not need feeding.
Transfer
Rivina needs an annual spring transplant. The tighter the pot, the more abundant the flowering will be and the more the brushes-berries will ripen. To prevent moisture from stagnating in the pot, its bottom must contain a drainage layer.
Pruning
Rivina needs to be pruned in early spring to stimulate abundant branching, because only young shoots bloom and bear fruit. In addition, a lush crown can be formed during pruning. Shoots growing inside the crown are best removed, otherwise they will interfere with the flowering and fruiting of the plant.
Reproduction of rivina
Rivina can be easily propagated both by cuttings and seeds. In March, the seeds are sown in loose fertile soil and kept in a mini-greenhouse in a bright place.
In the spring, a large number of cuttings may remain from the crown formation process. They are rooted in fertile soil, covered with a jar or film on top at high air humidity and a temperature of at least 20 degrees. The greenhouse is ventilated daily for 30 minutes.
Diseases and pests
Rivina is a fairly strong plant that is practically not affected by insect pests or bacterial (fungal) diseases.
Types of rivina
Rivina low - the most common type of plant. This shrub is evergreen, the height is no more than 1.5 m. The shoots are covered with tree bark, branching strongly. Leaves are ovoid, alternate, pointed ends. The length of each leaf is no more than 12 cm, and the width is about 4 cm. It blooms in the form of nondescript pale pink flowers. The fruits ripen in the form of bright red berries. There are also varieties with yellow and cherry berries.
A similar plant lives in my house. There are 5 plants in the pot. Height no more than 30 cm. After nondescript flowers (if they are flowers at all), green small balls turn red. Such a mini brush hangs, then new plants crumble and germinate. I delete them periodically. Question: is there a dwarf rivina in nature.
