Not many summer residents and gardeners are owners of a land plot with fertile black earth soil. And it is not so easy to quickly switch to organic farming. For example, strawberries grow in the same area for several years. And in order to collect a rich harvest of berries every year, you have to use various dressings. They must be applied at the right time and with the right ingredients. The future fruiting will depend on this.
Remontant strawberries respond best to feeding, usually they are fed weekly. The rest of the strawberry varieties need to be fertilized once every season (except for winter).
The first feeding of strawberries in spring
The first feeding is carried out in early spring, as soon as the snow melts and warms a little. It should be nitrogen-containing in order to accelerate the growth and development of young shoots and leaves.
One type of liquid top dressing is poured in an amount of about one liter under each strawberry bush.
Recipes for spring feeding strawberries
- 3 liters of water + 1 liter of whey.
- For a bucket of water (ten-liter) - 1 tablespoon of nitroammofoska or 1 liter of mullein.
- For 12 liters of water - 1 liter of chicken manure.
- Mix 10 liters of water with mullein (slightly less than 0.5 liters) and 1 tablespoon of ammonium sulfate.
- 10 liters of water + 1 glass of ash, 30 drops of iodine and 1 teaspoon of boric acid.
- Pour one bucket of freshly cut nettle with warm water and leave for 3 or 4 days.
- The remains of fresh or dry rye bread (or dried) should be poured with warm water and left for about 7 days to ferment. The bucket should be 2/3 full of bread slices. Before watering the plants, the prepared mass is diluted with water: 1 liter of top dressing per 3 liters of water.
- For 10 liters of water, add about 3 grams of potassium permanganate, 1 tablespoon of urea, half a glass of ash and half a teaspoon of boric acid.
Second feeding of strawberries in summer
The second feeding should contain potassium and trace elements. It is carried out after the end of the main fruiting (approximately at the end of July). Its purpose is to help the formation of the root system and the establishment of flower buds in strawberry bushes for the next summer season.
One of the selected liquid fertilizers is poured in an amount of five hundred milliliters directly under each berry bush. Dry top dressing (ash) is also poured under each strawberry bush, it does not have to be mixed with water. Such dressings are applied twice with an interval of two weeks.
Recipes for the second summer strawberry feeding
- For a large bucket of water - 100 grams of ash.
- Add 1 glass of vermicompost to a large bucket of water and leave for 24 hours. Before watering, dilute with water in equal parts.
- For a bucket of water - 1 teaspoon of potassium sulfate and 2 tablespoons of nitrophoska.
- For a bucket of water - 2 tablespoons of potassium nitrate.
Recipes refer to a 10 liter bucket.
The third feeding of strawberries in the fall
The third feeding should be done in warm, dry weather, around September.Strawberries need it for good wintering, especially for young plants.
The amount of such fertilizer for each individual plant is approximately 500 milliliters.
Recipes for autumn feeding strawberries
- For a large bucket of water - 1 liter of mullein and 0.5 glasses of ash.
- For a bucket of water - 1 liter of mullein, 1 glass of ash and 2 tablespoons of superphosphate.
- For a bucket of water - 1 glass of ash, 30 grams of potassium sulfate and 2 tablespoons of nitroammophoska.
Recipes refer to a bucket with a capacity of 10 liters.
Fans of organic farming are advised to feed mulched strawberry bushes with vermicompost infusion at least 4 times during the entire summer season.
