High-quality and correctly selected soil is the key to good seedlings and plant health. But very often the plants are planted in ordinary soil, which is at hand. It is believed that it is worth feeding it, and there will be no problems with the quality of the soil.
Adding top dressing to the soil is not difficult, and preparing organic dressing does not take much time and money. Each summer resident will have various waste on the site - egg shells, vegetable peelings, food leftovers. An experienced gardener will be able to prepare top dressing even from ordinary kitchen waste.
Top dressing with infusion of bird droppings
This fertilizer contains nitrogen, which is necessary for plants for the active development and growth of green mass. This top dressing, first of all, is needed for those plants that have at least one of the signs of nitrogen starvation - a soft and sluggish stem, yellowish foliage and stuntedness.
Bird droppings will save wilting seedlings or indoor flowers that have stalled. It can feed all vegetable plants, citrus fruits, all types of palms and ficuses.
To prepare the infusion, you need to mix 2 liters of droppings and 1 liter of water. This mixture should be kept in a sealed container for three days (for fermentation). When the dressing is ready, it will need to be diluted with water - 1 liter of infusion per 10 liters of water.
Ash feeding
Connoisseurs of organic farming consider ash to be one of the best natural dressings to stimulate the process of flowering and fruiting plants. Ash is a source of potassium and phosphorus. Fertilization with straw and wood ash is necessary for all indoor and vegetable plants.
It is very simple to prepare the infusion: you need to add 1 tablespoon of ash to 2 liters of boiling water, stir and insist for a day. Strain the infusion through cheesecloth or a sieve before use.
Banana peel as fertilizer
This exotic plant contains a large amount of potassium, so banana skins can also be used to make organic food. This banana fertilizer can be of two types: dry and liquid.
The banana peel must be thoroughly dried, and then chopped until it becomes a homogeneous powder. Such a powder - top dressing can be added to the soil when planting plants.
To prepare the infusion, you need to put the skins from two or three bananas in a three-liter jar and pour water at room temperature. When three days have passed, the infusion must be filtered and the plants can be watered.
This unusual dressing is very useful for many indoor flowers, as well as tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. Potassium contained in the fertilizer promotes active budding of plants and their subsequent flowering.
Egg shell infusion as fertilizer
This is one of the few organic fertilizers that contains a large amount of trace elements.Experienced gardeners and summer residents never throw away eggshells. A useful infusion can be prepared from it, or you can simply scatter it over the land.
The eggshell reacts with water: when it decomposes, an unpleasant smelling hydrogen sulfide is released. It is he who stimulates the growth and development of plants. Egg shell feeding is useful for many indoor plants and vegetables.
To prepare the fertilizer, you need to grind the shell of four eggs and fill it with three liters of warm water. The container is placed in a dark place and loosely covered with a lid. After about three days, the water will become cloudy and an unpleasant hydrogen sulfide odor will appear. This indicates the readiness of top dressing.
Coffee grounds as fertilizer
Coffee waste should not be thrown away either. Roasted, ground, and used coffee is an excellent seedling fertilizer. Dried coffee grounds, added to the soil, become a good baking powder for it, which significantly improves air exchange and water permeability.
The coffee grounds must be mixed with the soil in which seeds are planted for germination or for transplanting indoor flowers. It is very helpful to add coffee residues to the soil where eggplants, tomatoes, cucumbers, rose bushes and many flower crops will grow.
Onion husk fertilization
Onion husk has the ability to fight harmful microorganisms, and is also a valuable fertilizer. Experienced farmers call such feeding "two in one". It is good for all vegetable plants, but especially for tomatoes.
The infusion is prepared as follows: twenty grams of onion husks must be poured with warm water in the amount of five liters. After four days, the infusion is ready for use. First, it is filtered, and then spraying or watering is carried out.
Top dressing with a decoction of potatoes or potato peels
Damaged or discarded potatoes and peelings are a top dressing for all indoor and cultivated plants. Connoisseurs of organic farming never throw away this precious fertilizer, as it contains a whole range of nutrients.
To prepare potato fertilizer, you need to boil its tubers or peel. The cooled broth is used for watering all types of seedlings.
Sugar dressing
Plants, just like people, love to indulge in sweets. And since sugar is considered a source of energy, you need to transfer this energy to plants through the soil.
To indoor plants, such feeding is transmitted through watering. To prepare sweet water, you need two teaspoons of sugar and one glass of warm water. You can simply sprinkle the sugar over the surface of the soil in a flower pot.
Sugar dressing is useful for the presence of glucose in it. Therefore, instead of regular sugar, you can buy glucose tablets at the pharmacy. It is enough to add one tablet to a glass of warm water, wait until it dissolves, and you can water the plants with this solution. The frequency of such feeding is no more than once a month.
This fertilizer is very useful for cacti, but it can be used for all indoor flowers.
Unusual feeding
Farming lovers who live in an apartment also create small gardens for themselves on the windowsill or on the insulated balcony. So they come up with feeding for their plants from what is always at hand.
- A medicinal plant like aloe is famous for its medicinal juice and grows in many apartments as a home doctor. Its juice is considered a growth stimulant for plants and for seed germination. So you can use aloe juice diluted with water as a top dressing.
- Good housewives always soak beans and peas, lentils and pearl barley before preparing a dish, wash all the cereals. But good summer residents and gardeners use this water as a top dressing, because a large amount of starch remains in it.This nutritious water will be as useful as, for example, a potato top dressing.
- Some consider water, which remains after soaking or boiling mushrooms, to be the same useful fertilizer. This natural stimulant is suitable for soaking seeds before planting in the ground.
- Every family has a citrus lover. Peels from oranges, lemons and tangerines are the nitrogen that young plants need to stimulate growth. Well-dried and thoroughly crushed crusts must be added to the soil. In addition, their wonderful aroma will become a means of repelling harmful insects.
- Ordinary yeast is considered an excellent top dressing. Fertilizers are prepared on the basis of both fresh and dry yeast. This top dressing can be used no more than three times per season.
- If you have plants that do not like acidic soils, then this fertilizer is for them. You need to take toothpaste as a basis for feeding. To prepare the liquid for irrigation, you need to squeeze out about a third of the tube in one liter of warm water, stir thoroughly and the unusual fertilizer is ready.
Everyone must choose for himself which is better - to buy a ready-made fertilizer or prepare it from organic waste.
