How to save a flooded plant

How to save a flooded plant

Very often, indoor plants die due to an excess of moisture. If the soil has already been flooded, measures must be taken immediately to save the plant.

What is soil flooding and what to do? An excessive amount of water during irrigation, plus their unjustified frequency, can lead to the fact that the plant will be like in a swamp. Its root system will begin to rot, and mold will appear on the soil surface and on the plant. All this will lead to the death of the flower. Excess moisture simply prevents the plant from breathing.

Signs of the bay should be noticed in time First, yellowness appears on the leaf mass, then the stems wilt, and then mold with an unpleasant musty smell. Try to help your plants with a few tips from experienced growers.

Rescue measures for flooded plants

1. The flooded plant should be pulled out of the container as soon as possible and the condition of the roots should be checked. If they are not affected by rot and look healthy, then try to rid the flower of excess moisture. For this, paper napkins or towels are suitable, as well as a thin and highly absorbent fabric. Use one of these materials to blot excess moisture on the roots several times. After that, the flower can be planted in a pot, but you need to add a new potting mixture. Water the plant - only after the soil has dried by about two centimeters.

2. If, when removing the plant from the container, you find problems with the root system (roots are rotten, soft, dark brown), then try to remove the damaged parts with ordinary scissors. The plant with the remaining roots can be planted back in the flower pot.

3. It is necessary to check the condition of the soil. In the presence of mold and a putrid odor, the soil will have to be completely replaced with a new one. It's okay if, after flooding the soil, the plant sheds a few leaves.

4. In order to prevent an excess of moisture in the soil in the future, when buying a houseplant, be sure to consult about caring for it, especially with regard to watering. Each plant has its own water requirements. You cannot water all flowers on the same schedule and in the same way.

There are some indoor plants that need very rare watering and a small amount, but on the contrary - in abundant and regular. In order not to destroy a beautiful flower, you need to carefully study or find out all the information about it and its content.

5. For constant monitoring of soil moisture, it is recommended to purchase a special inexpensive device - a soil moisture meter. It's very easy to use. By inserting it into the soil of a flower pot, you can immediately see the result on a ten-point scale. If the soil is dry and requires watering, then the scale will show the number 1 or 2. If there is too much moisture in the soil, the device will show 9 or 10.

Today, when buying such a device, a list of indoor plants is attached, which indicates the level of soil moisture for each of them.
