Do not think that for growing tomatoes you will not need land at all - you will need it, but already at the last stages of growing this plant. But when germinating seeds and waiting for the first leaves to appear, you can completely do without land.
This method of growing plants is a life-saving anchor for gardeners who have not found time to prepare land for growing seedlings. To use this growing method, you will need plastic containers, as well as some frozen soil (for the picking stage).
To grow tomato seedlings without land, you will need:
- Transparent plastic containers, the lid must be tightly closed. You can use cake or ice cream boxes, simple dishes will do. The only important point is the height of the container, it should be at least 7 centimeters and no more than 10 centimeters.
- Toilet paper or dry napkins.
- Tweezers
- Pure water.
- Spray.
The cultivation of tomatoes without soil begins in the standard way, the seeds are processed using potassium permanganate, warmed up, hardened and soaked in water. It is recommended to take more seeds as not all can germinate.
Next, a plastic container is taken, dry napkins or toilet paper are laid out on its bottom, there should be about 5-7 layers. After laying out, the paper must be moistened with water, the main thing is not to overdo it. There should be no excess water in the container, if there is any, then it must be drained immediately.
Previously soaked seeds are spread on napkins with tweezers. It is important that there is a distance between the seeds, otherwise root plexus is possible.
After spreading the seeds, the container must be closed with a lid and moved to a warm place. The optimum temperature for germinating tomato seeds is about 25-27 degrees. Every day you need to open the container lid for a few minutes so that the seeds can "breathe", you also need to spray them with water. Somewhere in 3-5 days, the first shoots are formed.
After the formation of the first shoots, the container must be moved to the brightest place. During the day, you need to maintain the temperature in the range from 17 to 20 degrees, and at night, the temperature should be 14-17 degrees. If the temperature is higher than this, then there is a risk that the seedlings will begin to grow rapidly upward. Therefore, do not be afraid to let coolness into the room where the containers with seeds are located. If possible, you can illuminate the seedlings with lamps at night.
For greater confidence in the health of the plant, it can be fed with special liquid fertilizers. The seedlings are kept in containers until the first leaf appears, and after that they are transplanted into the ground.
It is better to transplant tomatoes in the late afternoon. Seedlings are carefully selected: the strongest bushes are planted in the ground, and the weakest ones are thrown away. In the seedlings selected for transplantation, the root should be cut (if it branches) so that its length is at the level of the seedling height.
If tomatoes are grown in pots, then there must be a drainage hole. Watering plants should be done with warm water.At night, tomato pots should be covered with foil and placed in a dark and warm place. In the daytime, the film is removed, and the seedlings are moved to a bright room. Further, depending on the growth of the tomatoes, it is necessary to add soil to the pots.
In all other respects, growing tomatoes without land is no different from usual.
