Gioforba care at home
Location and lighting
Gioforba does not tolerate direct sunlight, therefore, it is recommended to use shading in the summer. The indoor flower loves diffused lighting, which it can get on the west and east side of the house or on the south-facing windows, but not in the summer months.
Temperature
The optimum temperature for gioforba from March to September should be from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, and in the cold months - 16-18 degrees, but not less than 12 degrees Celsius. It is not recommended to place the gioforb in drafts, but the flow of fresh air in the form of ventilation is necessary for the plant throughout the year.
Air humidity
Gioforba needs high humidity. Spraying needs daily and regular, except for the winter period. The leaves are washed with water at least once a month.
Watering
Gioforba needs abundant watering during the spring-summer season and moderate during the rest of the year. In winter, watering is reduced, watered 2-3 days after the top layer of the soil has dried. The earth lump should not dry out, but an excess of moisture is unacceptable.
The soil
For gioforba, a mixture of sod and leafy soil and sand in a 2: 2: 1 ratio is ideal. You can also use ready-made palm substrate.
Top dressing and fertilizers
Special dressings for palm trees are applied every fifteen days from the beginning of March to the end of September.
Transfer
Gioforb transplant process is painful. Therefore, young plants should not be disturbed more often than once a year (or even every two years), and adults - once every five years. When transplanting, it is recommended to use the transshipment method to maintain the integrity of the root part. Every year, fresh soil must be added to the flower container, ridding the plant of the old top soil layer. Be sure to pour a drainage layer on the bottom of the flower pot.
Reproduction of gioforba
Gioforba reproduces by seed at a temperature of 25 to 35 degrees. The soil mixture for seed germination should consist of equal parts of sand, sawdust and moss. At the bottom of the container, drainage is first laid with small pieces of charcoal, and then the prepared soil.
For high-quality seed germination and the development of full-fledged seedlings, greenhouse conditions and about two months of time are required. Drafts, temperature and humidity changes are dangerous.
Diseases and pests
The most dangerous pests of the bottle palm are scale insects and spider mites.
Types of gioforba
Gioforba bottle-barreled (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis) - This type of bottle-stemmed plant belongs to slow-growing palms. The barrel in the form of a huge bottle reaches one and a half meters in height and 40 centimeters in diameter (at its widest part). The huge feathery leaves are the same size - one and a half meters in length.
Hyophorbe verschaffeltii Is a tall type of palm tree, the trunk of which reaches a height of almost eight meters. The rich green feathery leaves can be from one and a half to two meters in length. It blooms in inflorescences of small flowers with a bright aroma, located at the bottom of the crown.
