Ayan spruce is a type of coniferous evergreen trees. This spruce can be safely attributed to long-lived trees: the life span is up to 350 years. In appearance it is very similar to ordinary spruce... In Russian conditions, it grows up to 8 meters by the age of thirty-six. It has cracked bark of a dark gray color. Young shoots are characterized by a yellowish or light green color. The needles are short and flat, its color is unusual in that the top is actually always dark green, the bottom is gray. The needles can reach 2 cm in length, the tip of the needles is dull or very short.

Ayan spruce cones are very beautiful: before ripening, they can have a purple or greenish color, then turn into glossy, about 7 cm long, with light scales. Ayan spruce is well adapted to winter. Prefers moist soil, but rarely found in swamps.
