Bobovnik or "golden rain" is a perennial shrub plant from the legume family that has decorative qualities, a pleasant aroma and is a melliferous plant. The plant is especially beautiful during the flowering period, as it attracts attention with its sunny brushes, which seem to flow along the branches in a golden rain. The leaves and flowers bloom on the plant at about the same time - on the twentieth of May. It should be noted that all parts of the legume are poisonous.
The culture shows its decorative qualities against the background of coniferous plantings or a green lawn. Bobovnik looks great in rare plantings, and in dense stands it lacks sunlight, which negatively affects the abundance of flowering.
In natural conditions, the plant can be found in the warm countries of Southern Europe, therefore, in some regions of Russia with a harsh winter climate, the bean plant does not feel comfortable and may freeze a little. However, after that, the golden shower can quickly recover. Abundant bright yellow flowering of the shrub is possible in our climate only under favorable conditions and in good weather.
Basic requirements for the content of bean
- The landing site should be sunny, but protected from sudden gusts of wind and free from cold drafts.
- The soil on the site should be loose lime with good air and water permeability, nutritious, if necessary, pre-fertilized.
- Bobovnik can be grown on a personal plot away from the bustle of the city, as well as in the city, since the plant has the ability to grow in polluted air.
- Pruning is done once a year in the spring. It is recommended to start the procedure after the first leaves appear. It is necessary to rid the plant of frozen and dried shoots, as well as weak branches.
- Regular watering is not required for the bean; it has enough moisture in the form of rains. With a prolonged dry period without precipitation, the plant can be watered.
- Top dressing is recommended to be applied as needed, depending on the development of a flowering culture. A good time for fertilization is early spring or late autumn.
Legume breeding methods
Seed propagation
Before spring planting, the seeds are stratified for a month and a half. If there is not enough time, this procedure can be replaced by pouring boiling water over the seeds or keeping them in sulfuric acid for 30 minutes.
Propagation by cuttings
Cuttings with one internode and two nodes with 50% cut leaf blades are rooted in moist loose soil in a greenhouse.
Reproduction by layering
The lowest flexible branches of the legume (in early spring or autumn) are pinned to the ground and sprinkled, leaving one or two small small bushes until the roots appear, which are separated and planted the next spring.
